This week’s theme is unique perspectives. I don’t know that I’ll be going with this particular set or shot. But there’s something sexy and elegant about lipstick. Admittedly I only own them to admire them, and snap the occasional photo.

Is there anything you own or collect that you really could do without?

defining success.

By in quotes

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty,
To find the best in others,
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child,
A garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.

By in day, landscape, lets do 52, winter

This week’s theme for Paint the Moon’s Let’s Do 52 challenge was open. I spent the week daydreaming about the ways in which I could interpret this theme. It struck me as I drove to the barn after work on Friday, our first official snowfall, that an open field would be a perfect, literal fit. Though I did stop to snap a few of these both at the barn and along the side of the road on the way home, I wasn’t convinced this was what I wanted to submit.

It struck me on my way home this afternoon that the lake should be my subject. Though I did take a few shots of the vast expanse of clouds, and the uninterrupted moment when the sky kisses the water, I decided to include Toronto in my submission. The hazy landscape intercepting the horizon seemed to only magnify the amount of open space between the city and me. I had spent a lot of time worrying about this (seemingly simple) challenge, so capturing this moment after days of fretting felt like a small victory.

Will you be participating in Week 3?
